The COVID-19 pandemic has forever changed our world. The health and economic disruption caused by the virus is devastating. Testing is the best way to ensure you are safe and able to travel, or if you need to remain quarantined to protect your at-risk loved ones (infants, elderly, immuno-compromised).
If you live in the Atlanta Metro area, please reach out to our team if you need a COVID test. Now with new variants such as Delta and Omicron, it’s critical we stay ahead of this, by careful monitoring, early testing, and aggressive early care. Testing is highly recommended to mitigate risk to yourself and those around you.
Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Individuals infected with the virus will experience respiratory illnesses, and some may recover without treatment. However, those with underlying conditions and the elderly may become seriously ill and require medical treatments.
Need documentation for travel? Revival Aesthetics is CLIA certified. Our Rapid Antigen Test identifies acute infection with 96.6% PPA (sensitivity) and 99.3% NPA (specificity). Please confirm with country and airline which test is required for entry.
Most Covid symptoms manifest 2 to 14 days after exposure. The symptoms are classified into mild signs, moderate symptoms, and severe symptoms. The time after exposure and before showing covid symptoms is known as the incubation period (where the virus is beginning to replicate rapidly). A person can also transmit the virus through presymptomatic transmission during this stage. The common signs and symptoms of the virus include:
► Cough, sore throat, runny nose
► Tiredness or fatigue
► Fever (can be low grade)
► Loss of taste or smell (less common with newer variants)
Other symptoms that people with coronavirus are likely to experience include:
• Vomiting
• Rash
• Chest pains
• Muscle and body aches
• Headaches
• Dry cough and shortness of breath
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Chills
Also, look for emergency COVID symptoms. If someone shows any signs, seek medical attention immediately. The symptoms include:
► Inability to wake or stay awake
► Confusion
► Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
► Trouble breathing
► Pale or blue-colored lips, skin, and nail beds.
Also, remember, symptoms and their severity of COVID-19 can vary greatly from person to person. Some people will show few or no symptoms, while others will show worsened symptoms. Other people will show no signs at all but still have the virus.
COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) are infectious diseases which attack the respiratory system of its host. However, the viruses are spread by different pathways. Influenza is caused by the influenza virus, while coronaviruses cause COVID. While both diseases share similar symptoms, COVID-19 is more easily spread and can causes more severe illness in people than influenza. It can also take longer before people begin showing COVID-19 signs compared to the flu. Because some of the symptoms of coronavirus and influenza are similar, it may be challenging to differentiate the diseases, and testing alone may be helpful to confirm a diagnosis.
Priority Testing and At Risk Individuals
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), individuals under the following categories should be tested:
Keep in mind that not everyone with COVID-19 shows symptoms. Always check with a doctor or nurse if you’re feeling unwell to determine if a test is necessary.
Covid testing involving SARS-CoV-2 determines whether you have an active infection at the time of the test and are referred to as viral tests. A nurse practitioner or Doctor wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) can administer a swab test to your Upper Respiratory system to determine if the virus is active inside your body. Nasopharyngeal specimen (NP) collection is performed by a trained healthcare provider only.
CDC Guidelines and Best Practices are used by Revival Aesthetics ATL on our valued clients. The test kit will show a colored line proving infection if a person is positive. The significant difference between lateral flow tests and PCR tests for covid is that the specimens will not be sent to the lab for confirmation. Instead, the kits provide results within 10-15 minutes.
CDC keeps up to date guidelines at their website. Please refer to website for most current guidelines.
